    Rotary gives scholarships to 8 N. Thurston students

    The Lacey Rotary Club Foundation gave eight North Thurston Public Schools students college scholarships last month. The scholarships were based on academics and activities with a special focus on community service.

    Deadline approaches for health care career camp

    South Sound high school seniors considering a career in health care can explore that field at a Nurse and Health Care Camp sponsored by Capital Medical Center, Providence St. Peter Hospital and South Puget Sound Community College. The free event will be July 7 to 9.

    North Thurston union honors teachers of the year

    Fourteen North Thurston Public Schools teachers were selected by their colleagues as teachers of the year, according to the North Thurston Education Association.

    Rochester, Chehalis students win scholarship

    The Friends of Olympia Farmers Market has awarded the Robert J. Meyer Scholarship to Devin Dowell of Rochester and Alex VanTuyl of Chehalis. They will major in organic agricultural systems at Washington State University. Both are receiving one-year scholarships.

    N. Thurston student wins essay contest on Holocaust

    Elliott Appel, a recent graduate of North Thurston High School, is one of 10 national first-place winners of Holland and Knight Charitable Foundation’s 2009 Holocaust Remembrance Project Essay Contest. Winners joined six Holocaust survivors and educators to teach about the Holocaust in Chicago.

    Hawks Prairie Rotary recognizes 10 students

    The Hawks Prairie Rotary Club sponsored 10 students as “Hawks Prairie Heroes.” Teachers and counselors were asked to nominate students who had overcome a social, emotional, or financial barrier to improve themselves in the school environment or who had provided a unique or distinctive service to the school or community.

    Lacey Chamber recognizes students with scholarships

    North Thurston Public Schools high school students who won Kidwiler Scholarships were recognized at a recent Lacey Chamber of Commerce luncheon.
